Be Selective — Attend a University that Values Veterans
For 16 years, Victory Media and its G.I. Jobs Magazine has published an annual Military Friendly Schools list. This resource provides a comprehensive guide for veterans and their families, using data sources from federal agencies, veteran students and proprietary survey information from participating organizations.
Universities that have earned this designation have been evaluated using public data sources and surveys completed by each institution. An advisory council, in partnership with an independent research firm, helped to develop the survey criteria, methodology and questions. Data calculations were independently evaluated by Ernst & Young. More than 1,300 schools participated in the latest study, and 849 have earned the designation.
Boise State University is proud to be named among these institutions for a sixth consecutive year.
According to Victory Media, "Final ratings were determined by combining the institution's survey scores with the assessment of the institution's ability to meet thresholds for student retention, graduation, job placement, loan repayment, persistence (degree advancement or transfer) and loan default rates for all students and, specifically, for student veterans."

Combine a Military-Friendly University With a Military-Friendly Career
G.I. Jobs, which helps military transitioners explore career and post-secondary education options, has published another list. Its Hot Jobs for Veterans list is compiled from data and surveys from more than 200 military-friendly employers. Many jobs for which the Boise State online MBA program provide excellent training are on the 2017 and 2016 lists, including business operations manager, financial services manager, HR manager and bank branch manager.
The G.I. Jobs website has also compiled a list Business Degrees for Military Veterans. The first degree listed is in Business Administration, and the description reads, "You'll learn how to solve problems and make sound decisions. Hmmm ... sound familiar?" The implication is that military training provides highly transferable skills for problem-solving and decision-making. This increases the likelihood of academic success in an MBA program and professional success after graduation.
Problem-solving and decision-making skills are fine-tuned and sharpened in the Boise State University online MBA program. The curriculum uses 100 percent online digital content to explore group dynamics and leadership techniques, creative processes and project management methods, and the disciplines of business leadership. These include design thinking and strategic management, marketing strategy, corporate finance, global economics, managerial accounting, operations and supply chain management, and business plan development.
The Boise State online MBA program is AACSB-accredited, a distinction earned by just five percent of the world's business schools. The program has been ranked among the top 100 of its kind by U.S. News & World Report, and has been recognized by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.
Military veterans bring unique transferable skills to the workforce, and Boise State's esteemed faculty can help develop those skills for success in civilian life.
