Financial aid is available for students who already hold a bachelor's degree. Students in any post-bachelor's program must be enrolled in at least five credit hours to be eligible for financial aid. Scholarships

Scholarships are available for qualified applicants. All scholarships offer the same discount—15 percent off tuition, saving students about $5,500. The 15 percent discount is applied incrementally to each course a student enrolls in; it cannot be applied all at once. Discounts and scholarships may not be combined.

Affiliate Partner Discount

A 15 percent Partner Discount is available to students who qualify through their company. Ask your Enrollment Specialist for details and to find out if your company is a partner by calling 855-290-3840.

Experience Scholarship

The Experience Scholarship is available to students who meet the requirement of at least five years of full-time professional management experience where they have managed either people, budgets or customer accounts beyond a basic level. Student must meet all other admission requirements to be accepted into the program and receive the scholarship. A resume must be provided and evaluated by the University before the scholarship is awarded.

Alumni Scholarship

Go Broncos! A scholarship is available for all current Boise State Alumni Association members who have completed at least 25 credit hours at Boise State prior to enrolling in the Online MBA program. You are eligible to join the Alumni Association by paying annual dues of $50 or less.

Military Discount

Current or previous active-duty, reserve military or Army National Guard members and their spouses are eligible for a 15 percent Military Discount. Applicants who are interested in applying for the discount should indicate military affiliation on the admission application and be able to show proof of military status via a copy of their Leave and Earnings Statement (LES) or their DD214.

Candidate Profile

Boise State OMBA candidates possess a high degree of motivation, professional work experience, strong managerial potential and an aptitude for graduate study. Our Online MBA students come from diverse backgrounds, including engineering, social sciences, liberal arts, business, and health care.

The Online MBA program is designed for students from every industry and undergraduate background. No prerequisites are required.

Our curriculum is relevant, applicable and built for working professionals to use the next day at work. It is important that students are prepared academically and experientially to succeed in the program.

Admission Requirements

The Admissions Committee will review and evaluate prior academic performance, leadership experience, professional experience, aptitude for graduate study, writing skills, general motivation and managerial attributes based on the admission standards set by the College of Business and Economics for graduate business programs.

A well-qualified Online MBA candidate will possess:

  1. Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution
  2. Undergraduate GPA of 3.00 or higher
    • Applicants with a 2.75-3.00 GPA may be considered for provisional admission
    • If an applicant's GPA in their last two years (60 credits) of study is better than an overall cumulative, the higher GPA will be considered
  3. Two years of significant, full-time management experience
    • This is experience where applicants have managed people, budgets and customer accounts beyond a basic supervisory level. For example, roles where applicants have been responsible for hiring/firing, company training, fiscal management, and/or contract negotiations would typically qualify.
  4. Minimum score of 500 on the GMAT or 147/148 on the GRE OR qualify for a test score waiver; scores should be sent to Boise State's code: 4018. The GMAT/GRE test score requirement may be waived for applicants with:
    • Three years of significant management experience and a 3.00 GPA in their undergraduate career
    • OR five years of significant management experience and a 2.75 GPA in their undergraduate career
    • OR applicants who already possess a master's- or doctoral-level degree with a minimum 3.00 GPA

  1. Current, detailed resume highlighting your professional work experience
    • Brevity should not be a concern. Please include start and end dates (month and year) for each position held and indicate full or part-time employment. The Admissions Committee is looking for at least two years of full-time management or professional work experience where you have managed either people, budgets or customer accounts beyond a basic supervisory level.
  2. Personal Statement (500-750 words) covering your career goals and objectives, which addresses all three of the following prompts:
    • Describe how your background and values have influenced your professional relationships and leadership style
    • If admitted, how will you apply your MBA education to your current position? What strengths will you build upon, and what skills or qualities will you seek to improve?
    • Where do you think an MBA from Boise State will take your career?
  3. Optional essay of up to 500 words
    • This is an opportunity to provide additional information to the Admissions Committee and to explain anything that may not be covered in your Personal Statement—e.g., shortcomings in academic performance, time off from school or work, educational program transfers/discontinuation, or any other inconsistencies in the application.

      Re-applicants are required to submit this essay and respond to the question: Since your previous application, what are the steps you’ve taken to strengthen your candidacy?

  4. Recommendations
    • Two completed Recommendation Forms must be completed by professional contacts. A recommendation from your current supervisor is preferred but not required. Please select people who can provide details about your professional work and ability to be successful in an MBA program.

      There are two ways to request recommendations:

      1. You may designate recommenders in the online application by entering their email addresses. A form and email request with instructions will be automatically sent to them. They must complete their recommendation electronically.
      2. You may send your recommenders the Recommendation Forms and ask that they return the form via PDF to onlinemba@boisestate.edu.
  5. Application fee
    • A $65 non-refundable application fee must be paid by credit card in your online application before submitting.

Our Online MBA in Healthcare Leadership curriculum offers a relevant business education featuring essential organizational disciplines and leadership principles. Along with our unique Design Thinking course, core coursework for this program includes managerial accounting, corporate finance, marketing strategy and legal issues. As a student in this program, you will complete 10 core courses and three Healthcare Leadership emphasis courses.

BUSMBA 500: Business Foundations

Duration: 7 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 1 unit

Provides self-paced initial foundation or refresher in basic financial accounting, micro-economics, statistics, and spreadsheets. (Pass/Fail.) Prerequisites: ADM/PROG. Corequisites: BUSMBA 501.

BUSMBA 501: Design Thinking and Strategic Management

Duration: 7 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 4

Examines collaborative innovation processes that are transforming business and driving industry life cycles. Includes a first exposure to the creation of functional, business-level, and corporate-level strategies. Special consideration of organizational design, diversification, mergers and acquisitions, and measures of strategic performance including use of Balanced Scorecards. Interpersonal skills enhanced via online collaboration with classmates.

BUSMBA 505: Marketing Strategy

Duration: 7 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 4

Focuses on revenue-generating opportunities with special emphasis on evaluating opportunities for new products or services. Includes segment analysis, customer choice behavior, branding, marketing tactics, personal selling, and the evaluation of market opportunities. Includes opportunity assessment project in industry sector of student's choosing.

BUSMBA 510: People and Organizations

Duration: 7 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 4

Emphasizes integrated manager-employee relations in an organization. Includes HR planning, employee recruitment, selection, performance appraisal, discipline, coaching, compensation, and termination issues. Also focuses on collaboration, group dynamics, motivation, leadership, problem-solving, negotiation, and self-management. Interpersonal skills enhanced via online collaboration with classmates.

BUSMBA 515: Corporate Finance

Duration: 7 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 4

Examines the three major decisions in corporate finance affecting value of the firm: investment, financing and cash distribution. Includes the methods used to measure corporate value and evaluate financial performance. Issues in each of the three decision areas are examined within the context of their impact on the valuation model and financial performance metrics. Includes financial modeling project in industry sector of student's choosing.

BUSMBA 520: Global Economics: Policy and Trade

Duration: 7 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 4

Reviews how economies work, the differences between economic systems, factors that influence international trade, exchange rates, labor economics, and government polices related to trade. Includes a survey on the economies of the world, current topics in global economics, data sources for international economic trends, and an introduction to major international trade agencies/associations. Includes application project in industry sector of student's choosing.

BUSMBA 525: Managerial Accounting

Duration: 7 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 4

Examines various cost-based accounting concepts and practices. Particular emphasis on the challenges involved in using them to evaluate past performance and plan future deployment of firm resources. Interpersonal skills enhanced via online collaboration with classmates to solve managerial accounting problems.

BUSMBA 545: Legal Issues in Business

Duration: 7 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 4

Introduces future managers to the major legal issues involved in the business environment. Covers legal reasoning and the legal system, agency and business associations, torts, contracts, intellectual property, employment law, sales, and product liability. Includes application project in industry sector of student's choosing.

BUSMBA 550: Operations and Supply Chain Management

Duration: 7 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 4

Introduces product and service movement within the firm and between the firm and its partners up and down the supply chain. Focus on logistics management, supplier relationships, and creating operational excellence within the firm. Includes operations modeling project in industry sector of student's choosing.

BUSMBA 555: Business Plan Development

Duration: 7 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 4

Integrates previous coursework via development of a business plan in industry sector of the student's choosing.

BUSMBA 531: Leadership for Health Professionals

Duration: 7 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 4

In-depth discussion of management and leadership strategies as they apply to healthcare. Emphasis on oral and written communication in the healthcare field, change management, program planning, organization and staff development. Examination of data management, compliance and ethics as they relate to management decision-making.

BUSMBA 532: Healthcare Systems and Delivery

Duration: 7 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 4

Explores healthcare economics, delivery, and payment systems from the perspective of key stakeholders. Discussion of current issues in health policy and the impact to cost, quality and access of care. Analysis of various healthcare delivery models including population-based health and fee-for-service.

BUSMBA 533: Healthcare Operations and Financial Management

Duration: 7 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 4

Discussion of technology and practices for defining, measuring, and improving quality in healthcare. Exploration of financial decisions in a changing landscape with topics including revenue cycles, risk sharing, portfolio management and budgeting. Focus on data collection and analysis as tools for operational decision-making.
